FMFA 2014 – You Can’t Party Hungry

By | Blog | No Comments

10013838_774668689211865_477326096_nYup, you read it right. From 13-15th March, we will be serving burgers at one of the hottest Music Events – Future Music Festival Asia. This year’s location will be at Bukit Jalil Station and similarly like last year, we will be serving freshly cooked burgers on the spot.

We will be serving ShroomBomb – cheesy concoction of Umami filled mushrooms on top of a quarter pounder of juicy Beef/Chicken seared patties. Like every one of us, we can’t party hungry, so we hope you can drop by even if it’s just a “hello”.

Eat! Sleep! Rave! Repeat!

P.S. Both our SeaPark outlet and OUG outlet will still be running 🙂

13 Geeky Things @myBurgerLab in 2013

By | Blog | No Comments

I figured it would be fun to recapture few of the geeky moments (hey what being a geek is for if we are not gonna do any geeky stuff 😉 ) that we had at myBurgerLab, for making it an unforgettable 2013.

    1. OUG Lab
oug_labWe brought our geekiness to OUG,KL this year, with the same opening days and hours. This space is slightly bigger than our old SeaPark branch and it has a different soda dispenser (shhh…). The 2nd geeky BurgerLab is located at 8, Jalan Awan Hijau, Taman OUG, 58200 KL. Opening our doors same time from 5.00pm till 10.15pm (kitchen closes), we hope to see more of you around the neighborhood there.

    1. 1st Year Anniversary with a Gesture
annualThe Lab turned 1 this year and it was great fun to see many of you came and support not only us but also for a good cause – can food charity drive. It was definitely a great sight to see Malaysians coming together to make a difference to the community.

    1. Battling Out on Burgers
Yup, it can’t be any geekier than having our own Burger Battle to compete with each other by coming up with various burger recipes. Twice this year that we saw our geeks coming together with passion, dedication and innovation to wow the judges. I got to admit, there’s some pretty crazy combination right there. Feels like we can pull off a myBurgerLab Signature restaurant already. And certainly, we would also like to thank our judges for stuffing themselves with endless burgers.
Check out our short clips of both battles below.

    1. FMFA & NuffNang
19 9We had great fun in serving burgers in our 2 big events this year – the awesome FMFA at Sepang and first ever NuffNang Food Fest (#NNFoodFest). Man, being at these 2 events had loads of fun. We had to serve thousand over buns in the span of 2 days (and a guy flying into our booth Superman style at end of Day 1) and it was crazy fun with the headbobbling trance music in the background.

    1. DOTA?
53Yes another Geek Alert! We had a mini Lan Party for DOTA 2 players at the Lab, with our own team playing against 3 other teams. We are thankful to StashDen and our fans for such a great response. Our geeks definitely have to buck up for the next one apart from just flipping burgers.

    1. Yes, Tofu
tofuVege lovers would love this, as the Geeky R&D team came up an alternative for you! Yup, you can swap patties of any burgers (check with our geeks to see if it’s recommended of course!) to tofu patty. Limited quantities only though!

    1. Gotten your Paycheck?
paycheckAn experiment (not launched) to try out good cut of beef for our burgers. It needs more work though, but stay tuned this year. Sorry if this just made your new year resolution to be compromised.

    1. What??! Cheese in Patty?
cheeseinburgerThis is as Lab Geekiness to another level. Again this was just Testing, and it’s not launched yet. Perhaps you can do one to your Ramly at home just to test them out for fun.

    1. Geeky Tip Jars
      tipjartipjar2
Creative flair deserve some admiration. Our geeks had to figure out a way to fish for tips when their bosses were too cheapskate. And this definitely deserve a spot here!

    1. SeaPark just got doubled
We opened up the 1st floor of SeaPark for extra seating in December. The long awaited MORE SPACE request has been fulfilled. Now there’s very little “I need your seats stare” over your shoulders. We would like to apologise deeply on how long it took us so long to do this but we hope that you and your group of friends can enjoy yourselves better from now on.

    1. And the Birthday Boy/Girl went wild
      cake
Our “Project C” Geek hit the home run with this miniature 2 inch diameter 100g Black Burger Cake for the December babies (yup it only looks big only in photo). It was launched for free with a 3 day ahead request and we would like to thank all of you who were willing to be our guinea pig. She would like to personally give a shoutout to many of you who ordered it.

    1. Got Increase Price or Not?
2014, year of increment on everything else except salary. Yup it’s going to be a tough year for everyone. With that, we had to put our geeky minds to test this year after pledging that we would remain our prices next year. Oh and btw, the awesome chicken joint in town is tagging along the bandwagon as well.

  1. Gratitude Box
gratitude boxWhat a better way to end the year than to say thanks to our geeks for all the contribution they have given to the customers. Emphasizing on customer interaction and instragamable burgers, they have done a fabulous job for making the year 2013 an awesome one.

God so much to keep up with for 2014. Looks like we have to challenge ourselves to pull off 14 things to achieve for 2014!

The Periodic Table Lesson

By | Blog | No Comments

We figured we should do something cool on our wall, in regards to a Lab feel. So after lots of spraying with stencils, this is what we came with. Thought you will never see a chemistry class in a restaurant ever again? June.21.2012 Well this is what we came up. Our own periodic table. Check us out at the Lab once we are open!

It was an Ooey Gooey Night

By | Blog | No Comments

It was indeed an emotional night for us at myBurgerLab as it was the last session of our pop up restaurant in the Red Beanbag (our good pal’s place). To end it with a bang, our new creation Ooey Gooey Stack was rolled out that night. Portabella mushroom for the win!!
[Sorry Khai Sim (our biggest fan) that you had to miss out on that]

We had yet another full house, with many new faces came to indulge in our burgers. This time, we were excited to host Kheong and family (owner of the Red Beanbag) and seeing them nom nom every single bite of our burger was a great moment. Their advice and feedback has guided us a lot throughout our journey.

A food writer from LifestyleAsia came and tried our burgers as well. *Had to make a good impression for a burger lover*. The feedback was pretty positive. Thanks Alexandra! We also hosted Christopher Tock and his friends as well as Kelly Siew and Louise Xin (thanks for making it to our last session :D)

There were indeed many request for our charcoal buns after seeing photos of our previous session being posted up on our Fan Page. Every single one of them who tried it loved it.

There were indeed some misses on the chicken but fortunately the Portabella infusion got the rave for that night.

We are really honoured to be featured on

  1.  World of Tockism – http://spinzer.us/2012/04/myburgerlab-the-teaser/
  2. Semi-Charmed Life – http://khai-sim.blogspot.com/2012/04/myburgerlab-taking-food-science.html

Lastly, we would to extend our biggest thanks to Kheong and family for allowing us to run our pop up restaurant in the Red Beanbag (they serve awesome breakfast and coffee). We couldn’t have done all these sessions if it weren’t for their kind gesture. Also, not forgetting our fans for giving us all the valuable feedback on our product and concept which has help us improved a lot. And also our great friends who came and helped us out, especially Lih Ren (our lifesaver).

It was an end to a milestone, an exciting first part of the journey and now it’s time to move to the next, with putting the public as our priority – serving simply juicy burgers (the way it should be). It will be a very hectic 2 months nontheless, so please stay tuned to find out our progress. If you have yet to be our fan – join us here!

Sincerely from us,

A Night of Black and White

By | Blog | No Comments

No, it wasn’t the dress code. It was the first time where we rolled out our bamboo charcoal buns and our usual white fluffy buns. 2 trays of each were made, with one special customer gotten the special Ying and Yang bun 🙂

It was indeed a busy night. Full house to the max and it was so great to see people’s face lit up upon the first bite. Someone even mentioned that it was addictive and some had to try hard to refrain themselves from the sinful second round (while a few had to have seconds!).

It seriously by far the best BURGER i’ve had man!!! Compliments to you guys!!! 😀 Rmb to invite me for the next round!! Haha… bro addicted d..

We rolled out a new product at the lab that night, the Spiced Hawaiian Chicken Schnitzel with a big grilled Pineapple ring in it and the responses seemed to be pretty good.

It was indeed a long day for the back of the house staffs but the satisfactory feeling after the night was really overwhelming for us as everyone did a really fine job. Credits to Lih Ren and Sawa Ko for lending us a hand as well. And also a shoutout to Khai Sim for being the most loyal myBurgerLab fan so far.

Experiment 2.2 – Open for Reservation

By | Blog | No Comments

Yup, the lab will be open for reservation. Do join our mailing list here to be notified through email so that you can reserve your spot. First come first serve 🙂

We had our second stress test last night, serving about 30 customers. Everything was pretty smooth overall. There were just a few over toasted buns but we managed to pull it off. A+ was our main seller for the whole night and the coral lettuce on every burger just makes it look really awesome.

Our lab geek, Ren Yi, definitely got a number of pointers from his friends from the Cafe World. Knowing his passion to continually improving the product, we at the lab are excited to see what he is going to pull off next.

We really want to extend our appreciation to everyone that came. We really hope everyone enjoyed the night. Also a big thanks to Lih Ren for helping us yet again in the kitchen.

Experiment 2.1 – 3 Days of Serving

By | Blog | No Comments

It has been an interesting week, with 1 down and 2 ups. 🙂

Thursday
We had family members and friends of 2 our partners came along to test our burgers. It’s always such a pleasure to see your close ones there to give you a support and a pat on your back.

This night prove to be an important one to us, as we received pretty strong constructive feedback on how to improve our burgers better. It was definitely hard for us to listen to at the start, but it’s all about you, the customers, that we know deserve better burgers. Hence, we decided to improve on it the next day. Without the feedback, we wouldn’t know how to bring our burgers to the next level.

Friday
Due to some last minute cancellation of our initial invitees, we managed to get about 9 friends to dine. Tonight was our first roll out of our Chicken & Egg Dilemma burger. If you haven’t heard about it, be prepared for it. This pivot was decided by our Lab Geek after the Chicken Schnitzel was shot down the night before. To a surprise, it was very well received by our small group of testers. We were so relieved that the last minute decision paid off, making this burger part of our future menu 🙂

Saturday
Another day filled with family members and some close friends 🙂 Also, we were really excited to have Christopher Tuck and Lih Ren to test our burgers that night. Receiving positive response from both of them is definitely priceless. In fact, Chris had a second burger of ours 😀

It was indeed a great night to see everyone enjoying themselves. What a great way to end our week of continuous testing as things got better.

In the next 2 weeks, we shall definitely bring our A game another step forward. Stay tuned to see what our final planning yields….

Experiment 2.0 – Stress Test

By | Blog | No Comments

Tonight, we decided to stress test ourselves by throwing a big invite to our Ultimate Frisbee friends to see if we can handle a crowd of 30 people and also to get their valuable feedback.

It was definitely a stressful night as you can imagine, having such a large crowd with only 3 guys handling the kitchen and the floor, but nonetheless we had loads of fun seeing many of our friends again. A+ burger was definitely the main seller, followed by Say Cheese and Chicken Schnitzel.

At the end of the night, we were exhausted, but satisfied that we managed to pull it off. After going through the feedback received, we have gotten really valuable insights on what we should work on – Consistency. This is definitely important to ensure quality burgers for all our customers at ALL times.

One fantastic finding that we got was definitely the great reception of our awesome red sauce and white sauce (red sauce was preferred more :p). Looks like these 2 sauces are a keeper.

Again, we would like to extend our appreciation and thanks again to all Ulti players who made it that night. You guys are awesome. Thanks!!

Experiment 1.3 – Accidental Findings

By | Blog | No Comments

A good start to our week, as our Lab Geek finally got his potato buns right this time. After a 3 way split test experiment and some reverse engineering calculations, he managed to get the right combination. 🙂

This time, we had Sharon, Chui Yen and Ai Peng with us for more taste testing! There were mixed reviews for our A+ burgers. Looks like the crispy cheese and choice of mushrooms used should be thought over again.

On the flip side, we had positive feedback for our accidental burger – the Swiisstake burger. We actually did not have that burger in our menu list, but it turned out to be a keeper for our testers. Besides, they also like the spicy kick in our Sauce X. Perhaps we can start taking pre-orders for our Sauce X and Onion Jam 🙂

Things were great last night and it’s time to stress test our secret lair this weekend with more invitees. Come back on Sunday to our blog to see how we did. Till then…..
