RENYI RECOMMENDS: BEST BURGERS IN KLANG VALLEY 2024 (FEBRUARY)

Welcome to the ultimate burger journey in Kuala Lumpur! In this post, we’ll explore two mouthwatering creations from myBurgerLab, alongside 2 other burger joints in KL that are definitely worth your taste buds’ attention.

MYBURGERLAB: Jammin’ With Elvis (RM20.90)

This burger has been a staple on our menu since 2012. It is born out of the idea of paying tribute to Elvis Presley, who had an insatiable love for Peanut Butter, Bacon, and Banana Sandwiches. In our own twist, we decided to create a burger slathered with Peanut Butter and Blueberry Jam on top of a grilled juicy Angus Patty, topped with Natural Cheese done two ways (melted and seared).

MYBURGERLAB: Makcik Can Burger (RM16.90)

A play on words in the naming of the burger. As you’ve already suspected, this is a better version of MacD’s MacChicken Burger (got the pun yet?). A juicy fried Chicken thigh marinated in Thai herbs, accompanied by our homemade Pickled Mayo and fresh shredded lettuce sandwiched between two fluffy buns. What more can you ask for? Oh yes, take an accompanying spiced lime and give it a squeeze over the burger after taking a few bites to give it a boost in acidity, bringing this burger to another level.

RENYI’S FEBRUARY TOP PICKS

But some of you are probably wondering if I eat burgers outside of myBurgerLab’s. I do too! Here are some of my personal recommendations if you’re on the hunt for some great burgers around KL / Selangor –

Smash Burger KD

Smash Burger KD stands out as part of the new wave of ‘atas’ street burgers

This burger truck started appearing in recent months at Kota Damansara, just right opposite Nasi Kandar Original Kayu. We had the Single Smash Burger. It was served between a soft bun with caramelized onions and homemade pickles, served with their signature sauce that tasted like thousand island. One would expect the usual “banjir” type of sauce, but luckily they know to hold back on the sauces, making it a multidimensional burger. While the patties are on the thinner side, ordering a double patty fixes that. The sear on this patty was worth the wait.

Location: 31-2, Jalan PJU 5/18, Dataran Sunway, 47810 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Hours: 6PM – 12AM, Closed on Tuesdays.

Shimokita Space

Shimokita Space serves up great burgers in a space perfect for #OOTDs

This place is super Gen Z, and I say this as an expired old millennial without prejudice. It is nestled upstairs among the old shops in SS15 with a barely lit staircase. Upon arriving on the second floor, one is greeted with an assortment of ‘Japanese’ decorations reminiscent of a shadier side of Harajuku. Yet, it is crowded with young folks dressed fashionably, taking pictures in every single corner they can find. Head to the further end of the shop, and you’ll find yourself in a thrifting shop where preloved fashion can be found. Oh, this is where you order your food too.
Yes, we are here for the food after all. Once your order is placed, you head back to the entrance area but turn right to find a seating area, which is quirkily decorated with assorted retro TVs, radios, toys, and neon lights – a hipster haven.

Okay, we are here for the food, so let’s talk about that.
The burger was a no-nonsense Double Patty Smashburger filled with American cheese, caramelized onions, pickles, and special sauce, which went down well with their Butterbeer (non-alcoholic). If you’re looking for a chill place full of ‘vibes’ and a great burger to chow down on, this is the place to be. Beware of hippies.

Location: 94, Jalan SS 15/4b, Ss 15, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor
Hours: 3PM-11PM, Closed on Mondays.

From innovative creations at myBurgerLab to hidden gems like Smash Burger KD and Shimokita Space, Kuala Lumpur’s burger scene offers something for every palate. Whether you’re craving classic flavors or seeking out trendy spots, this city has it all. So, grab your appetite and embark on a burger adventure you won’t soon forget!

Disclaimer:
While these are my recommendations, do take note that your enjoyment of these burgers during your visit depends on said establishment’s consistency, your palate preference on that day and of course overall service experience. Don’t come knocking on my door if you had a less than savory visit 😇
